About Jen Hanchey
My passion is working with couples who feel stuck and hopeless. One or both partners may be asking, “Did I marry the wrong person? Can this marriage be saved? Would we be better off apart?”
Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an empirically validated treatment for restoring closeness and connection, I help couples get beneath the surface arguments—money, sex, parenting, in-laws—to see the core emotions driving the discord. EFT can produce deeper change than counseling methods that use cognitive-based interventions, like teaching communication skills or doing workbooks together.
I guide couples into the conversations they struggle to have on their own, conversations in which they can name and share their longings and fears with the other. I’ve helped couples repair significant ruptures, like affairs and betrayals, but I’ve also guided couples who’ve drifted apart or become enemies back to a place of soft attunement.
When partners understand how they each contribute to the current cycle of dysfunction and tension, they can then learn a new response, one that makes the other feel seen and known. We all want to rest in the assurance that our partner is in our corner, empathetic to our needs, willing to come when we call.
I affirm all people, regardless of race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, and social class. Reach out today to learn how to schedule an intake session with me. Your marriage deserves a second chance.
